6 Ways to Boost Your Immune System and Prevent Severe Allergies

Allergies are among the many chronic health conditions that plague a lot of people, and they are often passed down from generation to generation.

You would think that these are health setbacks that you need to come into terms and live with. However, medical professionals believe that there are effective ways for people who suffer from allergic rhinitis, eczema, asthma, and food allergies to control the symptoms.

One of the best remedies for allergies is to boost your immune system.

Why? It’s because allergic reactions originate in the body’s immune system. It is your immune system that springs into action every time you encounter allergens such as dust and pollen. It produces antibodies to fight these allergens, which manifests through hives, itchy and watery eyes, runny nose, and others.

During the allergy season, it is a must to implement immunity-boosting strategies to prevent severe allergy flare-ups. Here are six that you should do.

1. Be more consistent with exercise

Exercise has always been a way to strengthen the body. It improves blood circulation, energy level, and builds strength. At the same time, it triggers the release of healthy chemicals or hormones that block pain signals and the operations of stress hormones, adrenaline, and cortisol.

So, exercise more regularly if you want to manage your allergies better. But before launching into a workout routine to boost your immune system, consult your doctor first.

2. Drink tea regularly

Turmeric, green tea, rooibos, honey and lemon, peppermint, dried ginger, and stinging nettle (a natural antihistamine) are just some of the teas that are perfect for drinking if you are a person with allergies. Not only do these teas boost the immune system (especially when taken hot), they have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and healing properties as well.

These teas are all loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to combat the different physical discomforts that allergies cause. You can even combine them to create a more powerful tonic against your allergies.

3. Improve your diet

Consider an anti-inflammatory diet which should consist of a lot of soups and raw vegetables, and herbs and spices. It always helps to up the nutritional value of your meals for a stronger immune system and, with an anti-inflammatory diet, you get all the essential nutrients that can diminish the impact of allergens that make you sick.

4. Make sure to get enough sleep most nights

Getting sufficient night’s rest is vital to health. It is during sleep when the cells of the body repair and regenerate. If you do not get enough sleep most of the time, you place yourself at a high risk of developing serious illnesses such as heart and kidney diseases, high blood pressure, and diabetes.

On top of that, if you have allergies, the symptoms you typically experience may become more severe. It is important to mention as well that allergies affect sleep. You will find yourself sleeping pitifully when your allergies are acting up, which is another reason why you should focus on getting good quality sleep before your allergies make catching difficult.

5. Improve the quality of air at home

This is a fantastic allergy prevention tip because poor air quality can alter immunity functioning and worsen allergy symptoms. So, clean the air you breathe by investing in appropriate HVAC system services, deep cleaning services for your home to get rid of allergens, and air purifying devices.

6. Avoid stress

Stress has always been known to arrest the immune system and make the body more prone to illnesses and severe allergic flare-ups. Unfortunately, stressful situations are unavoidable. Therefore, you need to be deliberate with self-care.

Anytime you feel like stress is weakening your body, take some time out to regroup and treat yourself to an experience that will make you happy. A weekend of R&R can do the trick. Get a massage or spa treatment and allow your body to release healthy amounts of happy hormones to boost your immune system and make it more effective in controlling your allergies.
