What are Three Warning Signs of Hearing Loss?

No matter how old you may be, dealing with hearing loss can be very frustrating and frightening. Nevertheless, if you take the time to learn about the signs and symptoms, there is an excellent chance that you can catch the issue early. Although it may not totally prevent hearing loss, it can help you reduce the symptoms and lessen the effects. With that in mind, here are three warning signs of hearing loss.

Warning Signs of Hearing Loss

Hearing loss is much easier to treat when you know the signs and seek early intervention. This is because it will not only allow you to purchase the proper tools and devices, but it will also allow time to develop other supplementary skills such as lip reading to help you along the way. If you are wondering if you or a loved one may be suffering from hearing loss, here are three of the most prominent signs and symptoms.

Loud Listening

One of the top signs of hearing loss is that others complain about how loud the TV or radio is when you are watching/listening. Hearing loss is subtle. So, it may start with you raising the volume by just a few notches and end with you listening to everything at maximum volume. So, if you notice that your friends and family are suddenly complaining that you are blasting your TV or radio, this is a telltale sign that you may be suffering from hearing loss.

Using Your Eyes

Another common sign of hearing loss is that you use your eyes more than your ears. In other words, many people who are losing their hearing use their eyes to read lips and to look for signs and cues as to what is going on in social scenarios. This is because their ears are not hearing as they should, and therefore, they are being forced to augment their poor hearing with their vision.

Memory Loss

Lastly, one lesser-known symptom of hearing loss is that of memory loss. While it may seem like these two issues are unrelated, this is often a major sign that you may be losing your hearing. This is because it is difficult to remember things that you can’t hear well. So, for instance, if you find that you often seem to forget the details of various conversations, or if you often struggle to recall the details of various shows, song lyrics, etc., this may be because you aren’t hearing them well.

Need Help with Your Hearing?

Overall, if you are suffering from hearing loss, you’re not alone. Many people experience either temporary or long-term hearing loss as the result of disease, ageing, being exposed to loud noises/explosions, etc. Either way, if you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, it may be a good idea to get a hearing test from a qualified professional. Doing so will allow you to understand your hearing issues and seek treatment from a hearing specialist you can trust.
