How To Stay Physically And Mentally Healthy During The Covid-19 Pandemic

The Coronavirus-19(COVID-19) had an impact on our lives in so many ways. With changes happening here and there, it’s normal to feel anxious, stressed, and overwhelmed. With the government’s advice, we’re all encouraged to stay home to prevent the virus’s further spread. Social distancing and hygiene are being implemented to combat the spread of COVID-19.

During times like this, going to the gym is not possible, so consider alternatives to monitor your health and wellness. People struggle with various reasons why they don’t go to the gym or even work out at home. Fixed schedule, comfort level, financial obligations, lack of motivation are common reasons why people don’t go to gyms.

It’s important to take care of our physical and mental health, especially in challenging times like this. We have put up a list of tips on how to stay physically and mentally healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Practice meditation and mindfulness

Being mindful of the things you do and being aware of the present will improve your sense of being. This practice has been proven to help control and overcome stress, anxiety, and loneliness. Incorporating mindfulness into the things that you do doesn’t have to be complicated. An example is that you can practice mindfulness by taking your time to eat your meals without distraction and enjoying and savouring your foods.

Mindful breathing is also one way to practice mindfulness. It can benefit you in the long run. Breathing slowly and exhaling longer can help calm your parasympathetic nervous system and improve your sense of peace and wellbeing.

Taking time to meditate and reflect can help you in the long run. Mindful thinking help cope with negative emotions. Expressing your feelings through journaling, painting, or even talking to other people can help. Meditation, relaxation, spending time with your family, and even caring for yourself can improve your overall sense of wellbeing.

Maintaining a healthy and balanced diet

Avoiding emotional eating due to stress and anxiety related to the changes during the COVID-19 pandemic and how it impacts our lives is essential. Having a healthy diet can boost your immune system to help combat COVID-19. Dark leafy greens, fruits, healthy fats, complex carbs, whole grain, and healthy proteins are packed with nutrients that can boost your immune system and help you stay in shape. Also, staying hydrated by drinking lots of water and drinking herbal tea can aid in keeping you healthy.

Stay active

Even though the gyms are not open, there are many safe alternatives to doing physical activity at home. You can go outside, and take a brisk walk, and stroll around the neighborhood, as long as you’re keeping a safe distance from others. Exercising outside is a double advantage; you can keep yourself in shape and get your daily dose of Vitamin D. If you want to gain some muscle, you can use household items such as filling your milk jugs with sand as weights.

Dancing and chores are also a great alternative to going to the gym. Household chores such as mowing the yard, dust mopping the floor can also get your heart pumping and endorphins releasing to make you feel that sense of happiness and wellbeing.

Even the elderly can do simple and basic exercises at home using their assistive equipment, but make sure they are durable medical equipment.

Healthcare maintenance

Even though most people are staying indoors due to the pandemic, maintaining your health should still be considered. People who need healthcare appointments should consider their options, whether to schedule a physical consultation or a teleconsultation, especially during this challenging time. Getting scans, like radiology imaging, is also a good way to know your health status.

Also, be sure to take your medications are directed by your healthcare provider. Conditions such as hypertension, asthma, and other chronic illnesses should be kept in check together with the prescribed medications.

Stay connected online

Talking with family and friends during self-isolation can help reduce anxiety and feeling lonely. Utilizing communication apps like Zoom or Skype can help you keep in touch with your loved ones. During this pandemic, you can now fully utilize these applications to keep in touch with friends and meet new people.

Aside from talking to your friends and family, you can also join an online community of your liking. If you’re into a certain hobby, you can join this community as your support group that will help you gain a sense of camaraderie. Subscribing to online webinars and watching and delivering CE training and counseling services will help you with new skills.

Sleep

Getting enough sleep is very important for your physical, emotional, and mental health. A night of good sleep promotes a physically and mentally healthy wellbeing. Your mood, concentration, ability to learn, metabolism, and immune system are greatly impacted depending on how well you rested. Remember that quality sleep begins with a comfortable bed. If you’re in need of a new, more comfortable mattress but unsure where to look, Sleepify has some great recommendations.

Stay informed with reliable information

It can be not easy to know what’s happening with the world at challenging times like this. However with today’s technology, we can be aware of our surroundings and get the knowledge to keep us informed. But too much information can be quite daunting, and we tend to be anxious and stressed out. But, knowing and getting the right information from reliable sources is key. Reliable sources such as the news and the World Health Organization can help us stay informed during this COVID-19 pandemic.

Conclusion

The coronavirus pandemic changes made us feel anxious and stressed out, but staying healthy physically and mentally can help us combat COVID-19. Being aware and informed about the pandemic is also a great way to keep our minds clear. I hope you learned something about staying physically and mentally healthy during this pandemic. Always remember to wear a mask, practice social distancing, and implement good hygiene.
